Fire At Eastbank Street Photographic Studio Extinguished

 Firefighters extinguished a blaze involving a photographic shop and studio and storage rooms.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service was called at 12.13am to Eastbank Street, Southport, on Tuesday October 9.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.

Two appliances from Southport Community Fire Station, one from Formby Community Fire Station and the Incident Management Team attended the call-out.

Around 20 square metres of roof timbers were destroyed by fire. Two levels of wooden staircase were also damaged by fire. Around 5% of the ground floor of the shop was damaged by fire and 60% damaged by heat and smoke. Around 40% of the second floor was damaged by fire and 50% damaged by smoke and heat.

The fire involved three floors at the building including a small part of the shop on the ground floor, and a studio and storage rooms on the first and second floor.

The fire was extinguished by 12.47am but crews were still tackling hot spots and checking the roof for fire spread for a time. Damping down was continuing at the scene at 4.58am.
