Fifth person arrested after woman set on fire, Southport

A total of five people have now been arrested after a woman sustained burn injuries at a flat in Southport on Thursday, 26 December 2019.

Emergency services were called at about 8.35pm to a report a woman had suffered burns to her hands, arms and neck at a flat in Derby Road.

A 32-year-old man from Southport was arrested on suspicion of attempt murder on Wednesday (15 January). He has been released under investigation.

This follows four arrests made last year in relation to the incident:

A 59-year-old man from Southport arrested on suspicion of attempt murder. He has been released under investigation.

A 36-year-old man from Birkdale was arrested on suspicion of attempt murder. He has since been released under investigation.

A 49-year-old man from Southport was arrested on suspicion of attempt murder. He has since been released on conditional bail.

A 40-year-old man from Southport was arrested on suspicion of attempt murder. He has since been released under investigation.

The victim, a 38-year-old woman, remains in hospital.
