Fallen tree blocks road outside Southport Police Station

A huge tree has come crashing down, narrowly missing shoppers and police officers in Southport.

The tree outside the Tesco Petrol station on Albert Road has been torn down by Storm Eunice.

Police from the nearby Southport Police Station rushed out to immediately close the road.

Traffic is now being directed along Leicester Street and Manchester Road while the road is blocked.

Officers are currently using a police jeep and high strength winching rope to try and move the tree out of the way.

It’s thought it could be a number of hours before all the debris is cleared.

Police are asking people to avoid the area
