Lancashire police have taken in hundreds of thousands of pounds since the new average speed camera system was installed on the Tarleton bypass.

OTS News has obtained exclusive figures showing that in just over a month 1691 drivers have been issued with £100 fines for speeding along the dangerous stretch of road, totalling well in excess of £169,000.

The scheme has been accused of being nothing more than a money making exercise by the cash strapped police force.

In some instances drivers were speeding well in excess of a hundred miles an hour when they were caught on camera.

The average speed however of all the motorists caught was just 62mph.

The dangerous bypass has long since been a cause of great worry for many safety conscious residents after s strong of accidents, however these new figures appear to show motorists remain oblivious to their speed.

Now they will pay the high price.
