Ex pub homes plan gets planner green light

Plans to build eight new homes and a three-storey block of 15 apartments on the site of the bulldozed Shakespeare Hotel Public House have been approved.

A planning application submitted by agents Peter Brett Associates for the development on the corner of Scarisbrick New Road and Virginia Street was formally approved this week.

The building was demolished earlier this year following a separate planning application to pull it down was approved. In April, Virginia Street had to be cordoned off due to safety fears when scaffolding around a partly demolished wall at the site of the former Shakespeare Hotel fell onto the road.
