UPDATE: Man found safe and well after search at Formby beach

A man has now been found safe and well on Bushby’s Lane after a large scale search since early this morning. The Merseyside Police have said that the man has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

A huge search was underway after clothing and personal possessions were found there by a member of the public. Police officers, coastguard workers, a helicopter and police dogs are among those searching on the beach.

Police officers could be seen on the sands this morning along with quad bikes and boats off shore. A helicopter assisting with the search could also be seen overhead.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “A member of the public reported finding clothing and personal possessions in the car park at the end of Lifeboat Road at 7.35am today.

“Officers together with police dogs are working alongside the Coastguards Service to search the area. The police helicopter has also been deployed and the search is ongoing.”

There were 7 Police cars, two Police dog vans, Coastguard vehicles, the Police Helicopter, Police quads, Rescue boat off shore all taking part in the search since early this morning.

The Coastguard confirmed it received a call at 7.30am but said the matter was a police incident.

An eyewitness spoke to the Bubble and said “A mans suit, shoes, wallet full of cash and beer bottles along with a suicide note were found near the boardwalk this morning by a member of the public who informed the emergency services immediately”.

The search came to an end this afternoon just before 2pm when the man was found near Bushby’s Lane in Formby.

Emergency services have been seen searching Formby beach after possessions and clothing found in car park

At around 9:30 am police were seen searching Formby Beach after a member of the public reported finding clothing and personal possessions that were left in the beaches car park.

Police could be seen using dogs, quad bikes and boats off shore in order to find any trace of the suspected missing person.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “A member of the public reported finding clothing and personal possessions in the car park at the end of Lifeboat Road at 7.35am today. Officers together with police dogs are working alongside the Coastguards Service to search the area. The police helicopter has also been deployed and the search is ongoing.”
