Banks Shale Gas Update,  2014

In 2010 Lancashire County Council (LCC) gave the Shale Gas exploration and production company, Cuadrilla Resources, permission to drill a vertical well at the Becconsall site, Marsh Rd, Banks. Planning Application 08/10/0973 There was no public consultation and neighbours living only a few hundred metres from the site, whose property has since been dramatically devalued, were unaware of the proposal. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) did not have any involvement in the design or implementation of the well. An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was avoided by leasing only 0.99 hectares, just under the 1 hectare threshold for EIA consideration. Hydraulic fracturing was not mentioned in the planning application.
