Electrical junction box explodes on Lord Street Southport

A section of Lord Street has been cordoned off after an incident involving an electrical junction box, Monday 25 April 2016.

Merseyside fire and rescue service was called to Lord Street shortly after 9.45am this morning. A member of the fire brigade at the scene said: “The incident is said to involved an electrical junction box”.

Ellen Harrington who works at Pandora on Lord Street captured the incident on her mobile phone, she also said: “To my knowledge no one was hurt or harmed in the explosion”.

Sara Phillips said “There is methane gas in the outside electrics which caused the explosion – a lot of local shops are closed as they have no electricity as a result of this”
