Double whammy of apprenticeship award nominations for hospital

Aintree University Hospital is in the running for two gongs at the forthcoming Liverpool City Region Apprenticeship Awards.

The hospital has been shortlisted for the Apprentice Employer Award, while Emma Greaves, 21, has been shortlisted in the Sefton Apprentice of the Year category.

More than 100 apprentices are currently working towards qualifications at the hospital in a range of areas, including health, pharmacy, business administration, management, IT, electrician, building and engineering.

Among them is Emma, who is studying for an Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration.

Paul Smyth, Apprentice Lead at Aintree University Hospital, said: “It’s great that our work with apprentices is being recognised, we’re delighted to be shortlisted for these awards.

“Apprenticeships are a great way for young people entering the workplace to get some real-life experience while also studying for qualifications that will help them in their future careers. We also have many experienced staff pursuing apprenticeships to help broaden their skills, which all goes towards providing the best possible experience for our patients, visitors and colleagues.”

Emma said: “I’ve been at Aintree for 11 months and I’ve learnt so much in that time. I pursued an apprenticeship because I wanted to be part of an organisation that helps others and the team at Aintree has been so supportive. I’m honoured to have been shortlisted for an award.”

The winners will be announced at the Liverpool City Region Skills Shows on Monday 18th June, presented by Steve Rotheram, Metro Mayor of Liverpool City Region.

Siobhan Saunders, Chair of Liverpool City Region Apprenticeship Hub, said: “Liverpool City Region has many outstanding examples of committed, high achieving apprentices. In addition we have many pioneering and committed businesses who recruit apprentices, and drive forward the apprenticeship agenda for the success of the region. This awards ceremony is an opportunity to recognise the combined efforts of these apprentices and apprentice employers, and to celebrate the positive impact they have in Liverpool City Region.”
