Delight at Southport drug den closure

Residents and councillors in the Southport town centre are welcoming action taken to close down 15 Talbot Street, a multi-occupancy property which has been allegedly the centre of drug dealing in the neighbourhood and which was raided by Matrix officers several weeks ago.

Police were on hand today to support council officers in serving a closure order on the premises, similar to what happened with the Bridge Street and Eastbank Street properties of landlord Dave Scanlon a couple of months ago.

Dukes Ward Lib Dem councillr, who has been supporting local residents over this blatant drug dealing problem over a number of months, said:

“I am delighted, as I know the residents are, too.”

“The message needs to go out loud and clear to the drug dealers that there is zero tolerance of this activity in Southport.”

“While I am pleased to see the property closed down short-term, I am anxious that properties like this get re-furbished and tenanted with decent people. There are many hundreds of people on the housing list already and we cannot afford to lose properties in the town centre.”
