Southport FC are delighted to welcome defenders Chris Doyle and Keil O’Brien to the club.

21 year old Doyle joins from Morecambe while O’Brien, 24, joins from Bury.

Doyle recently spent time on loan at Chorley making 34 appearances and scoring 7 goals. The youngster had a spell in Morecambe’s first team at the end of last season following a number of injuries – going on to make 8 appearances and scoring 1 goal in the process.

Keil O’Brien started his career at Manchester United’s youth academy before going on to make 60 appearances for Mossley, and 59 appearances for Chorley where he won the Northern Premier League title in 2014.

Doyle and O’Brien have been on trial with the club for a number of weeks. Keil O’Brien is eligible for selection for Saturday’s Vanarama National League opener against Dagenham & Redbridge, while Chris Doyle has picked up a slight injury that will keep him sidelined for three to four weeks.

Both players were registered earlier today, and while an agreement was reached some time ago, secretary Ken Hilton was forced to wait until their existing contract arrangements had ended to register the players.
