Crumbling Debenhams store already in decay just weeks after closure

9th March 2020

It’s only been a few weeks since Debenhams department store shut for the final time but the building is already showing signs of major decay.

Bosses at the failing flagship chain pulled the plug on Debenhams across the country, including the iconic looking Southport store on Lord Street.

But there are concerns the building may be unsafe after passers by noticed crumbling ceiling tiles and decaying parts of the building’s structure.

Calls have now been made for someone to enter the store and clean up the front windows to encourage someone to take over the building or at least hide the structural issues the building has.
