HMRC Scam

The latest threatening version received by a Sefton resident warned the recipient by a call on her mobile, that she was due to appear in court. She was told to ring a given number and the caller insisted she must comply as she was under surveillance. Luckily she was aware of the scam and didn’t respond.

Bogus Trader

There has been a rise in reports of Bogus Callers in the Sefton area. In one incident a lady handed over £120 in cash to the suspect for cleaning the gutters of her property. The man made the excuse he would come back after he had been for his lunch. The work on the gutters was not started and he did not return. The suspect claimed to be working on a property being renovated next door, this was not true.

Crime Prevention Tip

If you have a porch door it is advisable to keep it locked and speak to any unknown caller through the glass. It is easier to say ‘No’ to any bogus officials, workmen or cold caller if you have a closed door between you and them. Also you and your property are kept safer by the locked door
