The challenge has been rolled out across the UK by nationwide fitness operator DW Fitness First to its members for the first time was accessible at over 120 clubs.

The huge collective challenge to generate £25,000 for the charity through a range of fundraising initiatives took place from March 17 to 23 and the public were called on to make their physical activity count.

Cllr Barton, who has been an active gym member for four years, said: “Not only will there be personal health benefits derived from participating, but this is a great way to encourage people for all ages to lead a healthy lifestyle by becoming more physically active for the long- term.

“I would like to congratulate the D W Fitness Centre for taking a proactive approach towards supporting such a noble cause.

“As a long- term supporter of Comic Relief and Sport Relief, I can only recommend the importance of helping others less fortunate in society and the mutual advantages for many of taking part in this challenge.”
