Councillor Acts on Christmas Tree Blackout

5th December 2017
The Southport Christmas tree lights should be back on tomorrow, a town centre councillor has been told.
Councillor Tony Dawson had come down to Lord Street to inspect the success of his request to get the Cambridge Arcade Christmas lights lit during shopping hours when he noticed the ‘black out’ on the tree in the Town Gardens.
“Traders contacted me beciuse the lights were not coming on till half past five which rather defeated the point of having them.”
“It would appear that there is currently an electrical fault in the lights on Lord Street,” says Councillor Dawson.
“Council officers say they hope the lights will be back on tomorrow (Wednesday) but there appears to be a possible overload issue given all the lighting which now goes through some rather old wiring.”
