CORNAVIRUS: Many thanks to our town’s frontline defence

24th March 2020

Southport journalist Martin Hovden writes: CORONAVIRUS: Full praise to the staff at Saint Mark’s Medical Centre and its in-house pharmacy in Southport’s Derby Road for the excellent service they are giving patients in these worrying times.

I was going to ask for my repeat prescription to be delivered to my home, but I decided to get out of the house and pick it up myself. And I’m so glad I did. The bravery and determination of the staff to serve the public was inspiring.

The centre’s receptionists, nurses, pharmacists, doctors etc must share the concern of all of us about catching this horrible and cruel virus, but they have chosen to put themselves right on the frontline to serve us, their patients. It’s very much appreciated by all of us.

When you arrive, you wait outside for someone to come and greet you. Prescriptions are given out at the back of the (beautiful) building. Staff wear aprons and face masks as a precaution, but they remain friendly and helpful.

I’m sure this selfless approach by surgery staff, hospitals and our emergency services is being repeated all over our town and the UK.

We do not take you for granted. We thank you.
