Cork Jackets and Drill
CD Launch night
Park Golf Club
Park Road Southport 18th October 8pm
Following the great success of the production ‘Cork Jackets and Drill’ a CD of the music and narration has been produced and a free evening presentation is being held at the Park Golf Club on Saturday 18th October.
The Park Golf Club is on Park Road near Hesketh Park and the event starts at 8pm.
Cork Jackets and Drill tells the story through new original songs and narration, of the 1886 Southport Lifeboat Disaster – A disaster which claimed the lives of the crew of the St Anne’s lifeboat and almost the entire Southport lifeboat.
The songs and script are by Southport based playwright, Len Pentin, whose playwriting work has been performed at Liverpool’s top theatres, BBC Radio Merseyside and the London fringe.
The musical performance is skilfully steered through its folk roots by Chris and Siobhan Nelson, Clive Pownceby, Pete Rimmer and Len Pentin, together with narration by actor Colin Wayte
Corkjackets and Drill tells how the dreadfully impoverished fishermen of the northern towns of Southport, Lytham and St Anne’s bravely gave battle one terrible storm-ridden December night in 1886, in an attempt to save the crew of the German Ship The Mexico, in distress off Southport sands.
It’s a free event and copies of the CD will be on sale.
Copies are also available at Broadhursts Book Shop in Market Street and at The Atkinson on Lord Street.
