Concern for pet owners over additives and preservatives in foods.
Dog, and other pet owners around the globe are growing increasingly concerned as to the use of chemical preservatives namely BHA(e320) BHT(e321) which are commonly added to many dog foods including some well known brands available in the UK.
The concern arises from the fact that use of these chemical additives has been banned for human consumption around the world, due to the fact that they are known to cause cancer/tumours.
Butylated hydroxyanisole — better known as BHA — is “reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen” (a cancer-causing agent),despite this dog food manufactures continue to use them in foods to prolong there shelf life (being cheaper than other methods).
There argument being “in small doses it poses no risk”, that argument is floored if a animal is fed that particular food on a regular basis.
Calls for a complete list of the foods with these additives would of course be a good idea, in the meantime pet owners may think it a good idea to check ingredient lists and have a think what we are feeding our pets.
