Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust and NHS Southport and Formby Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) will work closely together over the next six months to ensure the change in management of community services in Southport and Formby happens as smoothly as possible.
Following a competitive procurement exercise, NHS Southport and Formby CCG awarded the contract to provide community services in Southport and Formby to Lancashire Care. The change in provider does not come into effect until May 2017, and during that time the two NHS trusts will work closely together to ensure a smooth transition of services for patients and staff. For patients, there should be no noticeable change in the care they currently receive from community services and the staff who deliver them as a result of the change in management.
Sue Moore, Chief Operating Officer for Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, said: “It is our intention to work with established partners within the locality to continue to deliver high quality community services for local people and to support their health and wellbeing. We’re committed to achieving the vision set in the Shaping Sefton programme and want to see a better join up of all healthcare with other organisations that are often involved in providing an individual’s care. The aim is to provide services in a more seamless way and close to people’s home whenever it is appropriate and safe to do so. This also involves a commitment to building on the positive relationships that have been established with local GPs, the third sector and Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust who will be key players in our future models of care.”

Our conversations with Lancashire Care have been positive and we are committed to ensuring our staff and services transition smoothly to Lancashire Care, and Virgin Care in West Lancashire, whilst maintaining discreet services where it is clinically appropriate.”
Community Services is the name for a wide range of care and support commonly provided in clinics, health centres, GP practices and sometimes directly in patients’ homes. These services include district nursing, community matrons, blood testing, foot and leg care, treatment rooms, continence services, pain clinics, diabetes clinics and speech and language therapies.
