Autumn is well and truly here but don’t let that stop you enjoying some great free events in West Lancashire’s parks in November.

You can join the Rangers for a lovely autumn walk through Fairy Glen on Saturday 7 November, which starts at 10am. The eight-mile walk passes through some of West Lancashire’s most beautiful countryside and there are stunning views across the Lancashire plain and beyond as the route loops round over Hunters Hill and Harrock Hill. People who want to join in should bring a packed lunch and meet at the layby opposite Fairy Glen on the A5209.

Volunteers can help the Rangers plant trees in Coronation Park, Ormskirk, on Saturday 14 November; Richmond Park, Burscough on Sunday 15 November and Beacon Country Park on Saturday 28 November.

Planting new trees is an important part of parks management as it adds height and age structure to the existing woodlands, provides valuable habitats for the parks wildlife as well as helping to widen the biodiversity in the park. All the tree planting events start at 1pm. Please ensure that you wear sturdy footwear and clothing suitable to the task and weather conditions.

Then on Sunday 29 November in Coronation Park, Ormskirk, you can get into the swing of the festive season and make your very own Christmas wreath and ornaments using materials harvested from the park. Booking is required for this activity, which starts at 10am at the bowling pavilion. A similar event takes place at Beacon Country Park on Saturday 5 December, starting at 10am. Please contact the Rangers on 01695 622794 or email beacon.park@westlancs.gov.uk to book places for either event. All under 16s require the supervision of an adult aged over 18 at these events.

Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “All these events sound like a lot of fun so come along and enjoy them. By helping with the tree planting you will also be taking part in an important task that will maintain and improve our parks for human and animal visitors.”
