Cold weather conditions in Southport hit fox population

The extreme cold weather conditions have taken its toll on wildlife in the area.  There has been a numbers of sightings of dead foxes in and around the Marine Drive area of Southport.

Red foxes are unlike Arctic foxes that have thick white fur to keep them warm in cold conditions. They also have thick fur lining and a thick pad on their feet that stops the paws getting cold.

Residents are asked to call the RSPCA if they see any foxes in distress.
