A MOTORCYCLIST had to be airlifted to hospital after suffering serious injuries in a crash on Marine Drive in Southport.

Police were forced to temporarily close the coastal road between Marshside Road and the former Plough Pub after a biker in his thirties was involved in a collision with a black Saab, shortly after 1.30pm on Tuesday August 16.

The biker suffered two broken legs in the smash and had to be airlifted to hospital. His condition is not thought to be life threatening. The driver of the Saab was uninjured and is currently helping police with their investigation.

Inspectors from Merseyside Police’s Highways Team closed the road for a number of hours, causing tailbacks for rush hour commuters.
