Coast Road Cleansing – just in time for the Open Golf Championship

Following numerous complaints from local residents to the Council and to the three ward Lib Dem councillors (pictured above), Southport’s coast road is being temporarily closed for a few hours on Thursday 13th April one-way-only (Northbound) to clean up the litter on the dunes and verge. The short road closure will enable a Council highways/ cleansing operation to take place.

The closure will be in two phases:

• PINFOLD LANE to SHORE ROAD – from 9:30am to LUNCH TIME.

• SHORE ROAD to WELD ROAD – from AFTER LUNCH to 3.30pm

The Council’s cleansing team will litter-pick the dunes which volunteer litter-pickers (below) have been unable to address while traffic is moving on the road because of safety concerns.

Councillor Tony Dawson says:
“This is probably being done more to do with the thousands of visitors to the Open Golf tournament rather than for the benefit of the locals but whatver the reason it should be a considerable improvement.”
