Four members of the same family in Southport, have been charged following an investigation at a care home in Birkdale.

Four members of the same family in Southport, have been charged following an investigation at a care home in Birkdale.

All four members of the Barton family involved in the case have issued a joint statement, saying: “We are determined to fight all the charges against us and clear our names of the allegations brought against us.

“We have been overwhelmed by the support and help from the local community since news of our arrest broke.

“We have fully co-operated with the police investigation every step of the way and are at a loss to understand these charges.

“That said, we will continue to fight them and eventually we will clear our name.

“We’d like to take this opportunity to assure people that Barton Park will remain open and as always will provide the best possible standards of care to our residents.

“We will now start the fight to clear our name.”

In total Merseyside Police can confirm that six people have been charged following an investigation into allegations of fraud at Barton Park care home in Southport, which relate to an astonishing eighteen year period between 1997 and 2015.

David Barton (61) Lucinda Barton (53) David Richard Barton (26) and David Charles Barton (22) all of Oxford Road, Southport have been charged following a consultation between Merseyside Police and the Specialist Fraud Division of the Crown Prosecution Service.

70-year-old Thomas Mills of Roe Lane and Nichola Susan Pimlott, 58 of ALbert Place, Southport, have also been charged in connection with the investigation.

One of those charged is prominent Southport Councillor David Barton, who will appear in court to answer a chare of one offence of money laundering.

Ramamurthie Dasaratha David Barton, aged 61, of Oxford Road, Southport is charged with nine offences including conspiracy to steal (x2), fraud by false accounting (x1), theft (x 3), money laundering (x1), conspiracy to defraud (x1) and false accounting (x 1).

Lucinda Jayne Barton, aged 53, of Oxford Road, Southport is charged with six offences: conspiracy to steal (x2), false accounting (x1), conspiracy to defraud (x1), theft (x1), money laundering (x1), also relating to the 1997 -2015 period.

Thomas Mills, aged 70, of Roe Lane, Southport is charged with four offences: conspiracy to steal (x2) and theft (x2)

David Charles Barton, aged 22, of Oxford Road, Southport is also charged with one offence of money laundering.

Nichola Susan Pimlott, aged 58, of Albert Place, Southport is charged one offence of conspiracy to defraud.

Three women also arrested as part of the same investigation, which began in 2014, remain on police bail.

Those who have been charged will appear before South Sefton Magistrates in Bootle on April 29.
