Cllr David Barton – Lord Street Carriageway Remedial Works Programme

21st February 2018

Councillor David Barton, a leading campaigner for the restoration and regeneration of Southport Town Centre and Lord Street who originally and has consistently raised the matter of the much needed improvements to the Lord Street Carriageway said:

“Having originally requested the long-awaited resurfacing of the Lord Street carriageway, this should serve as a reminder to other Councillors why it is neither in the community’s interests nor that of the Opposition to make such harsh personal attacks on both those in power and the neighbourhoods they represent.

Whilst a full resurfacing of our proud main street has been long overdue, it should be kept borne in mind that such salacious wording as “Bootle’s revenge” used by our former MP does have consequences as clearly evidenced here. This serial approach of hatred and vitriol can and will only ultimately serve to undo all the good achieved by both Public and Private sectors here in Southport.”
