Cllr appeals to Sefton Council – Ruby Red Tarmac could still be used

Cllr David Barton told OTS News “Whilst I welcome this thorough measure for the benefit of the local community I would still request the Sefton Cabinet reconsider their present decision to use Black Tarmac in place of the historic Ruby Red Tarmac which could still be used.

Whether in its pure form or some incarnation this is a vital signature feature of our local beloved high street which is cherished by many here and beyond Southport.

Having now also directly appealed to the Cabinet Member Portfolio Holder I gratefully await a response as to whether my own Consultation data & research coupled with that of the Civil Engineers I have been in close liaison with may yet be taken forward in spite of unhelpful remarks in some quarters.”

Highways chiefs say Lord Street will undergo an important series of resurfacing works, to improve the carriageway.

It will be done in six stages, starting with Duke Street to Eastbank Street. Pedestrian access to shops and amenities will be permitted at all times, while access for deliveries done in is restricted between 7.30am to 9am and 5pm to 7pm daily.

There will be ongoing liaisons with properties affected as the works progress. Diversions will be in place via Duke Street, Victoria Way, Esplanade, Promenade and Seabank Road.
