Christmas hope for vandalised phone kiosks

A complex sub-letting scheme appears to be giving some hope that the two vandalised derelict phone kiosks outside the town hall in Southport are going to get renovated to be let-out to entrepreneurs.

Red Kiosk, who took on the phone boxes from BT . . . .

and presided over their recent rapid decline are now planning to let the kiosks out to Pod Works

who in turn hope to make money out of them.

Councillor Tony Dawson, who drew the council’s attention to the state of these kiosks in early November, says:

“If this does indeed happen it will be great news. The owners of these kiosks should never have allowed them to deteriorate like this since they are Grade 2 listed buildings. Likewise, Sefton Council has a responsibility to make sure owners of listed buildings keep them in reasonable condition which clearly hasn’t happened here, right under their noses.”

“I just hope that someone with ‘clout’ will keep an eye on the kiosks one they have been spruced up. Otherwise, history will simply repeat itself.”
