Christmas Activities That Are Happening in Southport This Year

    By Bart Crebolder22nd September 2025

It’s never too early to start planning for Christmas. If you want to get a jump-start on the festivities, then this guide will tell you all the activities you can take part in.

Christmas Movies at the New Vue Cinema

The new Vue Cinema in Southport, which opened up in January, is set to be showing Christmas movies for the first time this year. The cinema, which has undergone a multi-million pound investment, has been completely transformed with extensive upgrades. The cinema also contains the first electronic ticket barriers for Vue in the UK. Visitors will scan their tickets upon entry, with brand-new cinema projectors and sound systems. There are also Lux recliner seats within the Southport venue.

If you can’t wait for Christmas to dive into the festive spirit, then there are several festive movies on Netflix right now. Our Little Secret and The Merry Gentlemen are both streaming currently to those who have a subscription. There are also festive games available to play. The Jackpot King slots available at Betfair include Crabbin’ For Christmas, which is a spin on the hit slot game, Crabbin’ For Cash. With a festive theme that includes presents, snowy scenery, and Santa hats, it’s a great option for those who want to really delve into the wide range of Christmas entertainment that’s out there right now.

The Victoria Park Ice Rink and Light Switch-on

The Victoria Park Ice Rink is also set to make a return. Last year, there was a covered marquee, which helped the rink to be enjoyed regardless of the British weather. There was also a range of food available, including pretzels, bratwursts, and fries. Skaters could warm up after a frosty session with a hot chocolate. Although we don’t know what food or drink is going to be served this year, it’s set to make a return, especially given the fact that 13,000 people attended last year alone. The famous Southport Market usually hosts a Christmas-themed event every year, including party nights. If you’re in the middle of the town, you can also check out the Christmas Switch On.

Last year, there was a 60-foot LED Christmas tree, along with illuminated figures. Lord Street became the Boulevard of Light, with lamppost motifs lighting up the area. This is set to happen again this year, and although the decor might be slightly different, we can still expect to see the light-up Christmas tree. The date for the switch-on will probably be announced in early November, but even so, there are plenty of fun things to go and see and do, with many options available right on your doorstep if you’re a resident. You can stay up to date with everything by checking out the Visit Southport website, which will be updated with any new events shortly.

Christmas in Southport gets bigger every year, and it would not be surprising to see the 2025 edition be the most successful one yet. Southport tends to draw people from outside the area as well, showing what a wonderful town it is, and how much potential it has to offer, especially as the festive period draws nearer.
