CHILD escapes death on danger pier

A woman had to save her 9 year old boy from certain serious injury after he fell through the pier on Sunday.

Jacki Griffiths says her son nearly fell through the pier after a slat of wood broke and fell twenty feet to the ground.

He fell and injured his leg but escaped near death.
Jackie said “when walking on the pier yesterday a section broke off when my son walked on it.

Luckily I was holding his hand so he only sustained some bruising to his legs.

We’ve emailed and called Sefton council to let them know that they need to inspect but don’t know if they have yet.

We used some safety barriers which were stacked nearby to ensure no one else could hurt themselves but please do take care and watch your footing if on the pier.

This wood gave way under my 9 year old son so personally I wouldn’t be walking on it again until I was sure the council had assessed the safety. This was just close to the skate part which I believe was the section which was closed off.”
