Charity Garden Party in Ainsdale celebrates Myeloma UK’s 21st Birthday

Members of the West Lancs and Merseyside myeloma support group held a garden party in Ainsdale on Saturday 21st July to help celebrate the 21st birthday party of cancer charity Myeloma UK.

2018 is a big year for Myeloma UK as they mark 21 years of providing support, advancing treatment through research and improving care for myeloma patients and their families. They are united behind their goal of finding a cure for myeloma.

Celebrity guest, Elaine Deeming, Lead Cancer nurse at Southport and Ormskirk NHS hospitals was invited to cut the cake at the garden party which attracted over 30 friends and family from the support group and raised £400.

A spokesperson for the group said:

` The group meets once a month in Southport and is a great opportunity to meet patients, family members and carers in an informal and friendly environment and to learn more about living with myeloma which is a cancer of the bone marrow.

The funds will help Myeloma UK to raise awareness among local GPs and nurses of myeloma which has one of the highest rates of delay in diagnosis.

Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with myeloma. It helps myeloma patients live longer and with a better quality of life by accelerating the discovery, development and access to new treatments, while helping patients and their families cope with everything a diagnosis brings.’
