Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service firefighters and staff will be hosting a series of car washes in aid of The Fire Fighters Charity on Saturday, March 16th 2013
There will be 11 car washes being held at community fire stations and nearby locations across Merseyside throughout the day and a further two events later this month.
Firefighters from all fire stations on Merseyside will be taking part in the events and drivers are invited to bring their families along to meet crews while having their cars cleaned for charity.
They will take place on Merseyside including Formby Station on the day.
Fire crews will still be on duty and may be called away to respond to incidents during the events.
It is part of a month-long campaign in March to raise funds for The Fire Fighters Charity, which provides rehabilitation for injured fire service staff.
It follows a similar fundraising campaign in March and September last year, which was well-supported on Merseyside.
MF&RS Group Manager Gary Oakford, who is the MF&RS coordinator for The Fire Fighters Charity, said: “It is fantastic that all of the community fire stations are holding or helping out at a car wash this month.
“People are usually very supportive of the car washes and we hope even more motorists will come along and have their vehicles cleaned for charity.
“The charity costs around £9m a year to run and events such as this provide vital funds to keep it running. I hope people will come along and support the fun events.
“The Fire Fighters Charity is a very worthwhile cause that continues to help many people in the firefighting community.
“We hope many people will come along, have their cars washed and meet the Firefighters.”
