A local charity which supports local families in Southport and Formby during ‘tough times’ has been given a donation of £8,011 from a supermarket chain.

Volunteer and trustee Sheila Jones from Home-Start Southport and Formby based at Premier House on Wight Moss Way in Southport visited the team at the Co-op in Churchtown to collect a cheque.

Home-Start was nominated by Co-op members at the stores in Cambridge Road, Marshside Road and Fylde Road to receive funding from The Big Co-op Payout.

Home-Start is a charity that supports families who need a bit of extra support during tough times.

The Big Co-op Payout initiative saw £17.3m being delivered to more than 4,000 good causes. With Co-op membership rewards are earned for shoppers and their community. Co-op Membership gives 5% back on thousands of Co-op branded products in food stores.

Plus, the Co-op give 1% of what shoppers spend on Co-op branded food products to help fund a local cause in your community that you get to choose.

Sheila Jones said: “This was an amazing amount of money raised for Home-Start. It means that every family that needs a bit of help will be able to have some support from the charity, whether that’s a weekly visit from a volunteer, being able to come to our respite Family Group, or to have counselling – we will be able to help.”
