Central Avenue waits two years for resurfacing to be finished

Birkdale’s Councillor Simon Shaw says that the long wait to see the carriageways in Central Avenue’s cul-de-sacs properly resurfaced could be over this week.

Back in September residents contacted local Lib Dem Cllr Shaw to complain that, although the main stretch of Central Avenue was resurfaced in 2016, the six cul-de-sacs off it had been left undone.

I was concerned to find this was the case.  It seems that the problem was that the cul-de-sacs are simply too narrow for the usual machine to be used,” explains Cllr Shaw.  “Residents were told back in 2016 that contractors would return a few weeks later to complete the work, but that simply never happened.”

Councillor Shaw raised the problem with senior Council Engineers who apologised for what they admitted was an administrative error and promised to get work finished as soon as possible – two years after it started.

“I spoke to the Engineers again late last week and they told me that this sort of work depends on the weather being suitable,” continued Cllr Shaw.  “Obviously it has gone a lot colder in the last few days, but subject to that I’m hoping that the work should be done this coming week.
