Calling all Southport & District Amateur Football League players, referees and club officials past and present

The Southport & District Amateur Football League (S&DAFL) is celebrating its 50 year anniversary of the formation of the Sunday Section. The League has a population of players and teams located in Southport, Formby, Lydiate, Maghull, Ormskirk and Crosby and other Merseyside areas.

The S&DAFL was originally founded as a result of the fire which destroyed the stand and office accommodation at Southport FC, Haig Avenue, on the 27th  December 1966. The S&DAFL was originally a Saturday League only, however, decided it could assist Southport FC by creating a Sunday Section, thereby donating funds towards the rebuilding costs. On 25thMay 1967 the S&DAFL invited 22 teams to play in this new section and season 1967/68 saw the commencement of the new Sunday League.

Following the fire, the stand was rebuilt and, in a in a twist of fate, as the S&DAFL celebrates its 50th anniversary,  Southport FC is also rebuilding and upgrading its stand, offices and social accommodation this year in time for the 2018/19 season.

The Southport Theatre & Convention Centre, will host a dinner on Friday 1st June 2018 in the Waterfront Suite. This will include a 3 course meal, a free welcome drink, a Master of ceremonies, an ex professional footballer, Steve Kindon, (Burnley and Wolves), a comedian, Rod Woodward, who has appeared on the Royal Variety show.

Bill Halfpenny the current Chair of the S&DAFL, played for the then newly formed Prince of Wales FC in the first Sunday League Infirmary Cup Final in 1968. He  is inviting all past and present players, referees and club officials to attend the celebration and contribute to a memorable reunion. He is also requesting any memorabilia and/or photographs from the past 50 years to be forwarded before the dinner so that it can be collated. Please ensure that it has your details attached so it can be returned to you following the event.
