CCTV Appeal after brutal Liverpool city centre attack

Merseyside Police have issued CCTV images of five men following an assault in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of Sunday (2 September).

Emergency services were called to Slater Street at around 3.20am to reports two men had been assaulted. Both men were taken to hospital – a 23-year-old man was treated for a broken leg and a second man, a 46-year-old was treated for a head injury, which is not thought to be life-threatening. The second man remains in hospital.

The scene was cordoned off for forensic enquiries and CCTV from the area and surrounding bars and clubs is being examined. Witnesses from the scene are also being spoken to.

Detectives have now issued images of five men they believe could have important information about the incident, and are asking anyone who recognises them to contact police.

Detective Inspector Phil Mahon said: “The two victims are thought to have been involved in an altercation with the suspected offenders shortly before the offenders returned to the scene on Slater Street and attacked the men.

“We want to speak to the men pictured as we believe they could have vital information about the circumstances around the assault. If you are one of the men pictured, or think you might know who they are, we would urge you to contact police.

“Also if you were in the area and remember seeing any part of this incident or anyone acting suspicious around that time, please get in touch.”
