Cancer patient mugged during Southport night out

29th September 2021

A lung cancer patient enjoying an evening out in Southport Town Centre became the victim of a mugging.

Linda Johnson says her son, who has not been named, would like to publicly thank the taxi driver who rushed to the victim’s aid after he came face to face with a petty thief on Lord Street in the Town Centre on Saturday evening (25th September)

The thief made off with £60 in cash but the victim managed to hold onto his wallet and phone.

It’s understood the thief was scared off by the taxi driver, who then called police and kindly took the victim, who is currently bravely battling lung cancer, home to his family.

Linda said: “I would like to say thank you to the cabbie and may karma get you to the criminal.”

OTS has approached Merseyside Police for comment.
