An unknown local business group have taken ownership of the former BHS building in Southport for a cool half a million pounds.

The Chapel Street building, which housed the once grand department store for over 25 years, was reportedly sold at auction to a Merseyside based bidder for £500,000, according to a report published this weekend.

The building is currently host to a pop up furniture outlet as well as a mobile phone repair shop.

Staff at BHS Southport were unceremoniously made redundant after bungling businessman Philip Green sold the chain for £1 over four years ago.

Unfortunately the new owners couldn’t make the business turn a profit and it went into liquidation.

The Chapel Street building was closed and has failed to fully reopen since, only ever partially reopening to a series of pop up festive shops.
