Dodgy drip blamed for childs knee shattering slip at Southport Station

A small child has been badly injured after slipping in the puddles outside Southport station.

The toddler fell and is thought to have seriously damaged their ankle after they fell slipping on a puddle of water that has been dripping from the station ceiling.

Repeated calls have been made by OTS News for Merseyrail to fix the leak, which has been an almost constant presence for the last eighteen months after contractors removed the former circular lighting bays built into the ceiling.

Weak plaster has worn away over the years and bad drainage following heavy rain causes a slow but continuous drip, eventually forming a hazardous puddle which has caused a number of slips and trips in recent years. However the situation escalated this morning when a young child slipped and cracked his patella on the hard concrete.

It’s thought heavy rain overnight and this morning worsened the condition and there were no warning signs in place.
