Vandals have ripped up new goalposts belonging to a junior football club in Marshside.
Ben Minto, a joint Club Secretary at Southport Athletic JFC discovered the damage to the goalposts at Ferryside Lane fields early on Saturday afternoon.
The pitch is home to Southport Athletic JFC U7 to U13 teams, but was only allocated to the club several weeks ago.
Junior football clubs in the town are forced to pay thousands of pounds for pitch hire due to a shortage of pitches in Sefton.
Ben has appealed to any local residents unhappy at the team’s presence to contact him directly, after it was suggested the vandalism could be the work of disgruntled local dog-walkers or nearby homeowners.
