At their meeting next week, Sefton Council’s Cabinet members will be asked to approve a report on the future of Sandway Homes as the company approaches the completion of its final approved site.
Over six successful years Sandway Homes has delivered 78 new homes in Sefton, 31 of which have been affordable for rent and low cost home ownership.
Sandway’s latest site, at Buckley Hill Lane Netherton, which is nearing completion will deliver a further 63 homes. From early 2026, 18 of these homes will form part of Sefton’s council housing stock, the first such since 2026.
Sefton Council Leader Cllr Marion Atkinson said: “Completion of the Buckley Hill Lane site will fulfil the Business Plan agreed for the Council-owned company in 2019. In its six years, Sandway has delivered on the objectives set out in that Business Plan.
“No further sites are planned for Sandway at present, but the company will continue to work closely with the Council through Sefton Home 2030, the new and exciting partnership with The Sovini Group, which we announced in October.
“At this time company overhead is being managed effectively, with a view to maximising return to the shareholder and the public purse, and with a view to ensuring best value for house purchasers. The number of company directors is therefore being reduced, but we thank Graham (Kean), Glenn (Rowson) and Lin (Powell) for their hard work in helping Sandway Homes to deliver what it has delivered in recent years.
“Through Sefton Home 2030, the Council and Sovini have committed to delivering 1,000 new social and affordable homes in the Borough by 2030.”
Sefton Home 2030 aligns Sefton Council’s strategy with Government Policy and bringing an ever sharper focus to meeting social and affordable housing needs in the borough. And it enables the Council to scale-up the delivery of affordable and social housing that will be let to local people through the Property Pool Plus waiting list.
Cllr Atkinson continued: “In addition to the 141 new homes which it has delivered, Sandway Homes and its partners have accessed £1.6 million of government funding for its Sefton developments.
“And by working with local suppliers, Sandway and its partners have also contributed more than £3 million to the local economy.
“Sandway’s three developments have also provided valuable employment and skills to Sefton residents, who make up 45% of the workforce on the Buckley Hill Lane scheme.”
The Sandway Team will ensure that the company continues to deliver outstanding services to past, current and future home purchasers.
