For the last 50 years Chris Latham has been a Craft Baker, baking delicious bread, cakes & pies.
For 45 of these years he has been baking in Southport.
Now with four shops in Southport at Birkdale, Oak St, Meols Cop, Churchtown Lane Ends and Rufford Rd, Crossens, Chris has now opened a fifth shop in St Mark’s Square, Tarleton!
We at C H Latham the Baker Ltd see Tarleton as a village with a lot of good, well run private businesses and we hope our bakers shop will compliment these with our friendly team of sales staff who will be there to serve you with our range of speciality breads, cakes and of course our savoury pies, which we are well known for.
Customers have been known to buy our pies and take them all over the world.
Our pies and savouries are baked freshly on the premises through the day to ensure they are hot and fresh and at their best.
A full range of sandwiches and filled rolls are also available, made to order to our customer’s requirements.
We also make a full range of celebration cakes hand decorated by our experienced cake decorator Emma. Whether it’s a birthday cake, celebration cake or wedding cake Emma can decorate it to your own requirements.
We are traditional craft bakers, with a team of skilled bakers and confectioners producing bread, pies and cakes using traditional methods.
Our bread is made in the traditional way – mixed, allowed to ferment, then hand moulded and allowed to rise then baked to perfection.
All our bread is baked on the same day as it is sold. It contains no artificial preservatives and will not keep at its best for many days. It is best eaten fresh, and usually is!!
We are now a “clean label bakery” which means we do not add any artificial colourings or preservatives to our products. Therefore all our produce is “artificial additive free”, containing only natural colours and flavours.
Chris Latham started baking at the Oak Street premises in Southport in 1967, at the tender age of 21. With his wife Ann they rapidly built up the business and in 1969 took on their second shop in Crossens at the corner of Pool Lane. After two years they moved to larger premises in the centre of the village. Following greater success and a growing customer base more premises were added. In 1989 they acquired the Roe Lane shop and branched out into wholesale supplies to restaurants, hotels and shops. In 1999 the Birkdale shop opened making them the largest local retail baker in Southport. Chris now employs over 50 staff operating from 5 premises!
Our aim is to continue to produce high quality traditional products, using quality ingredients and traditional skills. All our products are baked at our Oak Street premises. We do not buy in frozen unbaked products and resell them as our own. Our bread is made the traditional way, fermented overnight, then allowed to rise before baking fresh each morning. No artificial preservatives are used in our bread.
