BREAKING: Southport is on social lockdown as family mixing banned

1st October 2020

Pubs, bars and restaurants will remain open completely in Southport as Matt Hancock this morning announced new laws on a Merseyside wide level.

Fines for a first breach of regulations such as failing to adhere to social distancing, or mask wearing will double to £200.

The new tougher restrictions, more severe than those announced two weeks ago, mean there can be no social mixing of households unless it takes place in a park or an outdoor hospitality setting.

Shops, pubs and bars however will remain open.

The restrictions place a legal ban on different households socially mixing indoors.

Travel must be restricted to essential travel only and care home visits will only be permitted in exceptional circumstances.

Attendance at sporting events is also prohibited.

Matt Hancock said: “We recommend against all social mixing with people in different households.”

It comes as cases across the region became some of the highest in the country.

He has announced the same measures as those in the North East. £7m of funding has also been announced to help councils across the city region.
