Blind vicar takes on huge endurance challenge

9th July 2017

The blind Vicar of the Church of St Francis of Assisi, Folkestone Road, famous for his dare devil stunts, is facing a long test of endurance this year, rather than a short burst of fear.
In previous years, The Revd. Alex Galbraith, has abseiled down Liverpool Cathedral, performed aerobatics in a light plane, gone whitewater rafting on the River Dee, descended the 360 feet into Gaping Gill and ridden the fastest zip wire in the world. “All those things were terrifying” said Alex, “but at least they didn’t last very long”

This year, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his church, he is going to walk 30 miles round the Kew estate, accompanied by the church’s Methodist minister, The Revd. Marie-Anne Kent. Marie-Anne has been practising and has already walked a marathon from Keswick to Ambleside.
The two clergy hope that some members of their congregation will walk with them for some of the distance and that they will also help to raise some much needed cash for the work of the church.

So look out for them in Kew on 5 August. If you would like any more information or to give a donation in support, please ring Alex on 547758. “I have not been practicing” Alex commented, “so I will have very sore feet after 11 hours of walking.”
