Bispham Road light switch on event cancelled due to weather concerns

26th November 2021

A planned switch-on event for the newly installed Bispham Road Christmas tree in Norwood has been cancelled due to weather concerns.

Storm Arwen is set to batter the North-West coast throughout the weekend, with the Met Office today upgrading a weather warning declared yesterday.

The tree has been arranged by the ward’s councillors Greg Myers, Mhairi Doyle, Carran Waterfield and has proved a popular addition to the local area.

The switch-on was set to take place this evening from 5pm, but organisers felt compelled to err on the side of caution rather than risk the safety of anyone attending.

Some areas of the North-East have been placed under a rare red weather warning.

Organisers The High Park Project say they are hopeful the event can be rescheduled.
