Whilst the future of Birkdale Library is still not secure, the Birkdale Library Action Group (BLAG) are currently working on developing their previous submission to the council into a solid business plan. This is to support, what BLAG considers to be a really strong case, to keep Birkdale Library open.
One of the points we are making is that running costs could be halved by the selective use of volunteers to supplement the professional staff.
In order to demonstrate that this use of volunteers is deliverable, we need evidence that a sufficient number of suitable volunteers would be prepared to commit to the library project. We would like to hear from those who would be prepared to carry out the work of a general library assistant. The work might include meeting and greeting library customers, helping customers to find the resources they want, re-shelving books and keeping the library safe and tidy, undertaking selected library routines and procedures, helping customers log on to computers, and generally assisting in the smooth running of the library.
If anyone feels that they would like to volunteer for this type of work, or even help in any other way, then please let us know. We want to hear from you.
Please contact BLAG by leaving a message on 0790 2017940 or e-mail email@example.com and we will get back to you.
