Birkdale High School Art exhibition Wayfarers Arcade Southport

20th January 2015

During the week Birkdale High School will be displaying some of the fine art work produced by some of it’s pupils in the Wayfarers arcade, Southport.

The exhibition on display shows examples of Year 10 and 11 Art work from Birkdale High School. The work is part of the boys GCSE portfolios and their responses to the themes of Portraiture, Close Up and Botanical Illustration.

The art students at Birkdale are encouraged to work independently making decisions for themselves regarding the media and styles that they chose to work with, and the artists that influence their work. As a result of this process the work is very personal to the boys and creates a wide and varied exhibition.

The portraiture on display has either been created in a photorealistic or Pop Art style. The photorealistic work is produced using a range of shading pencils and graphite powder and the Pop Art work is created using a range of bright and colourful gouache paints.

The Close up and Botanical Illustration projects have been created using a variety of mixed media especially when creating the texture within the work.

Staff and pupils from the school will be in the Wayfarers arcade on Saturday 24th January during the day giving out information on the school.
