Southport food lovers have extra cause to celebrate National Pie Day tomorrow (January 23rd) with the town lucky enough to boast Britain’s best pie makers.
The ovens at Farmhouse Kitchen will be working overtime on National Pie Day with customers expected to flock to one of their numerous venues across Southport to sample the award winning savoury treats that experts say are the best of the best.
The Farmhouse Kitchen, run by a mum and son duo, on Old Park Lane recently won best pie in the country in two different classes while being highly commended in two others.
Overall the team scooped six medals (two gold, two silver and two bronze) at the annual battle of the pies.
Owners Rob and Terri Marshall and their team of top staff are expecting a busy weekend of trade given the national celebrations and have asked customers to make sure they get their orders in early before they sell out.
As well as their Old Park Lane headquarters the Farmhouse Kitchen team also run the Grazing Lounge on Bold Street and Farmhouse Kitchen On Sea on Station Road, Ainsdale.
National Pie Day, while originally an American tradition, has found its way to British shores in recent years given the nation’s love of all sweet and savoury pastry delights.
It was first recognised in 1975 by American pie enthusiast Charlie Papazian, who cheekily declared his birthday (Jan 23) as National Pie Day.
