Silver Voices latest campaign is gathering pace ‘Our campaign to delay the switch over of traditional copper wire landlines to internet -based telephone systems (VoIP or Digital Voice) is fast gathering pace. Just before Christmas it emerged that Michelle Donelan, the Technology Secretary, had ordered the telecom companies to protect vulnerable customers in the switch over, particularly those with telecare alarm systems linked to their landlines, as a result of some “serious incidents” involving telecare devices failing. It was all great fun yesterday for everyone at the Birkdale Craft Fayre. Santa and his elf were in attendance to add to the Yuletide cheer. We also had the company of Ali’s Animal Ambulance Southport (AAA) raising much – needed funds to help animals she rescues. https://www.facebook.com/AAAalisanimalambulance  Supporting local businesses and worthy fundraisers remains to be a leading motivation for our ongoing efforts. This Saturday marks our Xmas fayre at Liverpool Road Methodist Church, (Red Brick) in Birkdale. We open to the public at 2.00pm to 5.00pm, free admission. We have amazing stalls with handmade crafts to purchase, plus preloved items. Laura our face painter from Ellis’s Fantasy Face Painting and Bobble Braids will also be there.  We have Woodlands Animal Sanctuary with their fundraising stall and their special Shetland pony pal, Merlin coming along to support them.  Please do come along to see him. The Southport Air Show has been a crackingly good event for many years. However, organisation behind the recent show left a lot to be desired. The scene at Birkdale was chaotic. The abysmal security situation was reminiscent of an episode of the Keystone Cops. People wandered freely into the alleged exclusion zones, often without challenge. Hard – pressed coast guards whizzing about on quadbikes tried and largely failed to direct people off the shore.
