Southport Crafts and Events had their last fayre of 2024 yesterday (14 December 2024), at Sacred Heart Church hall in Ainsdale. Santa even made a brief appearance to hand out free presents for the children. We will be back in February 2025 with more events. Families braved the chilly November weather to see the attractions in the town centre. A section of Lord Street was closed off for the event, which was organised by Sefton Council and Southport BID.
RAF Woodvale saw various military helicopters involved in low level flying manoeuvres today. A small crowd of onlookers and photographers lined the pinewoods as the evening mists arrived, just after sunset Military aviation exercises are apparently scheduled from November 11 to 15, between the hours of 10am to 2am. However, aircraft were quite active as the light faded away.

Yesterday’s (9 November) indoor car boot sale at Liverpool Road Methodist Church (Red Brick) Hall in Birkdale was a roaring success. The crowds flocked in to discover bargains galore and we even had the lovely goats from our friends at Woodlands Animal Sanctuary for company. Three rooms well stocked with hidden treasures kept the enthusiastic visitors busily hunting for special gifts all afternoon. Railway devotees flocked to Southport train station last Sunday (3 November) afternoon to say farewell to two iconic 507 trains. The pair of Merseyrail’s 507 units made to journey from Southport to Hunts Cross and back on Sunday to mark the end of their service on the track.

To rapturous applause, Ainsdale man Jason Regan was presented with the Young Community Champion UK accolade in the Britain in Bloom RHS UK Finals yesterday. BBC’s ‘The One Show’ was filming therein at the crowded Manchester event. This was in effect the country’s Horticultural Oscars. Moreover, the entire hard-working Ainsdale in Bloom team were presented with a Silver Gilt award for their noble community efforts. Representatives from Ainsdale will be at the Manchester United Football Stadium to hear the result on how Ainsdale is judged in the Town category and how our Young Bloomer is judged within the UK Finals. Ainsdale resident Jason Regan has been a loyal volunteer with the Ainsdale Village Bloomers team since he was 15 years old. RHS Britain in Bloom UK Finals are taking place on 21st October. Jason was nominated by the Ainsdale team for an RHS Young Champion Award. Jason is following in his grandfather Bill’s footsteps. Bill was the Head Gardener of Hesketh Park for 50 years.
The popular event took place today, Sunday 15 September 2024, at Victoria Park. Sadly, the poor wet and cool weather struck and this was reflected in the empty spaces that normally held many more crowds and vehicles. Above: Umbrellas never went out of fashion.
