Residents in a town centre apartment block say they want more to be done about piles of rubbish dumped at the back of where they live. The piles of used boxes, pallets and rubbish is growing ‘by the day’ at the rear of flats on Eastbank Street. The rubbish has been fly-tipped alongside properly disposed of waste on Queen Anne street. Detectives are issuing images of a man who may have information following the sexual assault of a teenage girl in Southport last month. At around 2.25pm on Saturday 8 June, a 17-year-old girl and her friend were leaving Southport train station when she was sexually assaulted near to Tesco on Chapel Street. Residents in Sefton who have applied to vote in the General Election by post but have yet to receive their postal vote packs are being urged to get in touch with the Council. Registered voters who have applied for a Postal Vote should have received their packs by 5pm on Friday, June 28th. Christ Church on Lord Street will host the event from 7.30pm to 9.00pm this evening. Workers will move in to the Southport theatre site this week to prepare the building for impending demolition. The council have told residents today that work will finally begin on site this week after a number of politicians raised concerns about the project stalling. The ex theatre is to be demolished to make way for the Marine Lake Events Centre. Deliveries and contractors will be rolled into the area and heavy machinery could be seen, nearby residents have been told. An animal rescue sanctuary have shared a heartstring tugging appeal to find a home for a tiny kitten who is the only one of a litter to remain unadopted. Architects have revealed plans to create a 30 bed hotel complex at a former council parking offices in the town centre. Wetherspoons bosses at the Sir Henry Seagrave have been working behind the scenes to submit plans for the conversion of a number of upper floors at the Lord Street building. Detectives working across the North of England executed a series of warrants today as part of an ongoing case to crack a suspected human trafficking ring. Multiple individuals were arrested today including a 43 year old man from Southport. Police raided an address in Southport before detaining and arresting the man on suspicion of human trafficking for sexual exploitation. Furious residents have been given a chance to vent about ‘dangerous’ cycle lanes in Southport Town centre. A meeting of the council’s licensing committee took place last night to formally note a series of objections to the controversial cycle lane scheme that runs like a vein through the town centre. A Southport department store will close down again just a handful of years after it was resurrected from a previous closure. Beales department store have announced a ‘closing down sale’ on their Facebook page but given no other details as to why the Lord Street complex is once again shutting down. One person said of the news “it’s always the staff that suffer.” The ‘new’ Beales department store opened in 2021 after its previous incarnation of Broadbents and Boothroyds said farewell to the town after 132 years. An Arriva bus has been involved in a crash in Ainsdale this afternoon. The smash occurred at approximately 13:30 today at Carr Lane in Ainsdale. OTS News understands that there were no passengers or pedestrians involved, but the incident did cause significant damage to a parked car and a number of lamposts. Merseyside Police have been notified of the incident. The circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear.

Police are directing traffic around a serious three car road traffic collision on the coastal road. Emergency services were called to the coastal road close to the junction with the Formby Bypass just before 1pm. Three cars travelling in the same direction were involved in a serious collision with two of the vehicles being rear ended. The damage caused to all three cars is significant. Police units are currently managing traffic and are working to keep the road open while the cars are removed. Witnesses statements have been taken and all drivers stopped at the scene.

Southport Food & Drink Festival is entering its third and final day of the 2024 show after hosting thousands of people at Victoria Park. Good weather on Saturday resulted in huge queues across the site and hardly any room to sit down with thousands of people estimated to have attended across the day. Broadhursts Bookshop staff said they were heartbroken to announce the death of their boss and friend Laurie Hardman. At around 8.40pm on 31 December 2022 a BMW was seen being driven dangerously and at speed along Cemetery Road before swerving and crashing into a wall. RAF chiefs have cast doubts on the Battle Of Britain flight appearing at the Southport Air Show this year after the tragic events of last week. The RAF has temporarily grounded the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight following the death of a pilot in a crash. Experienced pilot Mark Long was killed when the Spitfire he was flying crashed in a Lincolnshire field. A Southport grandmother is home safe this afternoon after she sadly went missing in the early hours of Tuesday May 21st. Ronnie Green, who has Alzheimer’s, left her home this morning sparking a town wide search led by her worried family.
